London Cheaper Than
New York?
That's what Visit London is reporting, according to Worldwide Cost of Living, which compares prices and products in 140 cities around the world. Apparently it is 25 percent cheaper to head to London than it was a year ago. And many of the cities museums and galleries are free – so maybe you can start planning your trip to Britain's capital. And don't forget to check out the theater in the West End, where many shows set you back less than one on Broadway. www.visitlondon.com

Just imagine how tough the research process was for Joe David, author of Gourmet Getaways: 50 Top Spots to Cook and Learn. Joe visited inns and culinary schools all over the country and took courses ranging from a weekend to a week. The book includes backgrounds on the chefs, their food philosophies, cooking tips and recipes. You'll want to grab your apron and make your way to the kitchen – or maybe just start planning your own gourmet getaway. Warning: this book is best perused after a meal. $16.95 at www.GlovePequot.com and also available on Amazon.com
