Spirit Spins New Fees

Spirit Airlines controversial fees for carry-on luggage took effect Sunday - $30 for any bag that's too big to fit under the seat; $45 if you wait until the gate to pay. Stating that Spirit has cut fares, often enough to offset the fee, CEO Ben Baldanza claims, "I think what we'll find is over the next weeks and months as this program evolves, and more and more people understand it, that people will see that the trade-off is a really good one," he said on Sunday.
I'm looking forward to hearing how this goes over.

Pick of the Week

Yes, that really is her name, although the description no longer fits. Blane Bachelor wrote a popular column on being single in an alternative weekly paper in Atlanta. She has compiled her funny, honest and informative columns in a book: On Being a Bachelor: Thoughts on Dating, Mating and Relating. Recently married, Blane converted her column to a syndicated advice column. Her fun website features a question of the week and even a space where you can ask a question. For more information on purchasing the book or advice on why Mr. Right has turned oh-so-wrong, visit www.askabachelor.com
