Build and Bond

People in New Orleans still need help rebuilding and the New Orleans Marriott is making it easier for groups of volunteers to go, with a rate of just $84 a night. If four volunteers stay in one room, the price is just $21 a night. Good for groups of 10 or more for a variety of dates through 2009. The Build & Bond program also offers resource kits on the city and transportation, free parking for a 15-passenger van and discount prices on box lunches. For more information call 504-553-5526 or visit www.travelpulse.com/Resources/Editorial.aspx?n=52300.

Pearl on a Pillow

Mints are nice, but how about a jewel? Book a luxury suite at Jumeirah Essex House in NYC and you get a $250 certificate to Mikimoto, located just around the corner, or the certificate is redeemable at their boutiques in Beverly Hills, South Coast Plaza and Las Vegas.  Fun fact: After decades of research and efforts Kokichi Mikimoto created the world’s first cultured pearl in 1893 and a few years later opened the first store devoted exclusively to pearl jewelry. The award-winning 509-room Jumeirah Essex House is right on Central Park. www.jumeirah.com

Explore a
Dude Ranch

They aren't just for guys, travelgirls! The 30 ranches of the Colorado Dude & Guest Ranch Association are offering culinary weekends, yoga weeks, murder mysteries, biking and crafts and photo workshops. Or you can do the cowboy thing and go on cattle drives, enjoy horsemanship weeks or Native-American weeks. Plus there are plenty of kids' programs if the children are along. Check out these selections and more at www.duderanching.org

Bike for MS
in the Low Country

It's just about time for the fourth annual Bike MS Georgia Power Savannah Ride, which will be May 2-3. Enjoy the scenery of the low country and visit sites such as Wormsloe Historic Site, the gorgeous Isle of Hope and the University of Georgia Institute of Oceanography and the Roundhouse Railroad Museum.  All funds raised by the event go towards research and programs for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Check it out and register at http://bikemssavannah.org

A Jewel of a Gift

I spotted these cute jewelry pouches at the Atlanta Apparel Mart and appreciated all the eye-catching designs, plus the fact that there is a special cushion to hold stud earrings, a strap for necklaces and a pocket for bracelets. Each pouch closes with a coordinating ribbon and snap and measures 5" x 5". $24.99 for cotton pouches and $45 for suede at www.gemvelopes.com.
