Arts in Augusta
Augusta, Georgia is the place to be this September 17-26 for the Westoubou Festival. This 10-day cultural event is similar to Charleston's famous Spoleto, with more than 200 performances and 26 exhibits. Only in its second year, more than 100,000 visitors attended last year. A highlight will be a concert by the Grammy-Award-winning Blind Boys of Alabama, which is enough for me to make my plans to attend. My friend is their manager, and let me tell ya, these guys can move your soul. http://www.westoboufestival.com/.

This package is also available at Hotel Le Dauphin Montreal Downtown for $165 and Hyatt Regency Montreal for $254. Call 1-888-515-0515 for reservations. Catie the Canine
Catie Copley, who has been The Fairmont Copley Plaza's Canine Ambassador since 2004, now has a book out. Catie Copley's Great Escape tells the story of an adventure she has with Santol, the Canine Ambassador at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Quebec City. A portion of the proceeds of the book, written by Deborah Kovacs, will be donated to NEADS/Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans. The book is available at the two Fairmont hotels, in bookstores around the U.S. and Canada and on amazon.com
pick of the week
An impromptu party on our front porch after a Braves game was rained out last week seemed the perfect occasion to test Baja Bob's sugar-free margarita mix. I love me some margaritas, but sometimes shy away from them because of their high calorie content. These mixes have zero calories and are mixed up just like a regular margarita. We made ours in a blender, added salt on the rim of course, and served up a round for our guests. The consensus was they were not quite as great as the real thing, but pretty darn good. Considering that a regular mix is around 100 calories for just four ounces, this mix might become a staple at our house. Available by the bottle and in portable packets. www.bajabob.com.
