Big Bang for July 4
I've been going to the Lenox Square fireworks in Atlanta since I was a child. Back then we could drive right up and just park ourselves on the long-gone grassy hillside. The most memorable year was when my best friend's 11-year-old brother got into the "Big People's Coke" at their annual 4th of July party, and after he woozily sat down, his scout master plunked himself right down next to him. I'm fairly certain there is no badge awarded for underage drinking. This year is the 50th anniversary of the largest fireworks show in the Southeast. Games and musical entertainment starts at 6:00 with fireworks scheduled for around 9:40. www.lenoxsquare.com
New Grand Canyon Tour
This new Pink Jeep Tour to the Grand Canyon is the only one allowed access to the remote Quartermaster Point. Travel from Las Vegas in the Tour Trekker, a new high-end vehicle, with stops at Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and Dolon Springs along the way. Once at the West Rim, guests have the option of a 20-minute hike and can tour the Skywalk, the transparent 70-foot walkway. The tour lasts 9-10 hours and the cost is $224. www.pinkjeep.com
