Jan Gets a Blog!
I realized one of my long-time goals and launched my Girl on the Go blog covering travel-related news, events in Atlanta and relationships. Check out other blogs from travelgirl contributors here.

Madonna Inn

Release your fantasies by selecting your favorite room at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo in California. Whether it's in the Caveman Room, the Love Nest, the Safari Room, the Daisy Mae or many others, your stay will definitely be memorable at this unique inn halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Check out their "Gift of Giving" special between now and December 13: take a new unwrapped gift worth at least $10 and get $30 off your room rate. www.madonnainn.com

Get Luckie
in Atlanta

Love this idea from the Glenn Hotel in downtown Atlanta, which also has the best rooftop terrace bar in town. You'll already get a great deal by getting a superior guest room for just $85.75, and the "Get Luckie" package includes a lottery ticket and a chance to roll the dice to win a Dream Suite upgrade if you roll snake eyes. Roll again for a chance to win a complimentary bottle of wine or entrée from 30 Tables, the delicious restaurant in the hotel.

New York for New Year's

We all know about ringing in the New Year at Times Square, but the organizers have also added a few other fun activities. Visitors to the Times Square Information Center are invited to write down wishes and resolutions for 2010, which will be displayed on the Confetti Wishing Wall. At midnight on December 31 the papers will become part of the confetti released on the crowd. And how about Good Riddance Day? Shredders will be in Duffy Square so you can write down your bad memories and shred them! Dates for Good Riddance Day will be posted at timessquarenyc.org

Help Kids Cope
with Cancer

Although she was diagnosed with stage IV cancer in 2002 and given two months to live, Beverly Hyman Fead is still alive and wrote this book with her 11-year-old granddaughter, Tessa Mae Hamermesh, to help explain the realities of cancer. Tessa lost her three other grandparents to cancer and realized her friends didn't know much about it. The book is written for children ages 8-12 and helps them understand and cope with cancer's progression. The book is published by the American Cancer Society and is available for $14.95 at www.cancer.org/bookstore or at Amazon.com.

pick of the week

This water bottle might have to go on my must-pack list. The Clear 2 Go bottle has a filter inside so you can get clean filtered water wherever you are. One filter lasts for 100 gallons of water so you're assured of always having clean water, without having to buy wasteful overpriced bottled water. Good for you and good for the environment, and just $15.99 at www.clear2o.com
