Grand Velas
It's tough for me to stress about the holidays, as I will be spending the day today poolside at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. This gorgeous all-inclusive all-suites hotel in Puerto Vallerta has a huge three-level pool, award-winning restaurants and a spa where I said good-bye to pre-holiday stress. Well I probably did that the moment I walked into the huge open-air lobby with the view of Banderas Bay. Check it out at www.grandvelas.com
Suites Deal
in DC
Last weekend we stayed at the excellent Eldon Suites in D.C. where we had a huge suite with kitchen, complimentary breakfast and a location that got us just about anywhere we wanted to go in DC by foot or Metro. There are 50 suites here, ranging from 650 to 1500 square feet. Check out their Anti-Hibernation package that includes a suite, two passes to a fitness center and two tickets to a museum, including Newseum - best museum I've ever been to. www.eldonsuites.com

Pick of the Week
For the foodies on your list, consider Lonely Planet's book A Moveable Feast. Subtitled Life-Changing Food Adventures Around the World, the book contains 38 stories of food on the road, from mutton in Mongolia to tacos in Tijuana. Not sure what the chapter called "The Hair of the Cow" is all about but I'm intrigued.
$14.99 at http://shop.lonelyplanet.com/world/a-moveable-feast and also available on Amazon.
