Airline Merger Good for Customers?
The big news this week in the airline industry is the purchase of Airtran [www.airtran.com] by Southwest.[www.southwest.com] So far consumer analysts believe this is a good thing for consumers and the merger will increase our options for low fares. And say so long to those annoying baggage fees - our bags come along free for the ride on Southwest. Personally, I'm thrilled to have the quirky Southwest, rated the number one airline in customer satisfaction for the 17th year in a row, come to my town of Atlanta. Bring on those low fares!
Got Bed Bugs?
Let's hope not. But to check out recent reports of where the pesky critters have been spotted, check out bedbugregistry.com. The user-generated site also has maps by city. New York has the dubious distinction of having the worst infestation in the United States, with bedbugs at the Empire State Building and resulting in temporary closures of retail stores like Niketown and Victoria's Secret. Sign up for alerts so you are notified when anyone within a mile of you files a report. And check out your hotel before you travel so you don't bring any unwanted creatures home to roost.
Pick of the Week
After I admired my friend Larke's necklace she told me it was a line of jewelry created by a 14-year-old girl to raise money for autism research. Kenzie Mabry's collection is called Beads for Ben, after her cousin who has autism. All her jewelry is made from items from the earth - leather, pearls, wood, stone, brass and sterling silver - and it is really beautiful. Items start at just $15.Check out more about her story and order her jewelry at www.beadsforben.com
