Diski Dance Your Way to South Africa
To celebrate hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup, South Africa is sponsoring a Diski dance video contest, named after a spirited dance from their unique soccer-playing style. Teams can visit www.southafrica.net/dance to view tutorials, then create their own video for a chance to win a trip for the entire team, which includes 12 players, the coach and one parent for each player. The team will play a group of South Africa youths in an exhibition game. The winning team will be announced in mid-January. The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be played in South Africa from June 11 to July 11 in nine host cities and 10 stadiums across the country.
Christmas in November
I was lucky enough to attend this amazing event last year at the gorgeous Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. We made wreaths, learned gift-wrapping techniques, watched cooking demonstrations from famous chefs and tasted delicious food. Oh, and stayed in a lovely little cabin right on a mountain lake. This year the event has weekend dates on November 6-8 or 13-15, and midweek packages from November 9-12 and
16-19. Learn more at www.christmasinnovember.com
A Day at Disney
In an effort to inspire volunteerism, Disney is giving a free one-day admission ticket to Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort theme park if you volunteer at a participating organization in 2010. The "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" promotion starts January 1 and free admission will be offered to one million people. Visit Disneyparks.com for more information.
Sun-Powered Wine
Persimmon Creek Vineyards in Georgia is using the sun to do more than help grow the grapes – the vineyard has installed a solar system on the roof of the winery to provide energy to operate the vineyard. This boutique family-owned winery in Clayton is producing several variaties of wine, with many processes done by hand. The vineyard offers tastings, tours and custom luncheons and also has three elegant cottages where guests can enjoy a relaxing getaway.
