Jan Gets a Blog!
I realized one of my long-time goals and launched my Girl on the Go blog covering travel-related news, events in Atlanta and relationships. Check out other blogs from travelgirl contributors here.

Le Bon Marche

If you find yourself in Paris, strolling the streets of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, check out the new window displays at Le Bon Marche. From August 27th to October 12th the giant windows will pay homage to Los Angeles. The Paris landmark department store chose LA-native Liz Goodwyn to create the public art, highlighting the City of Angels through her eyes as a filmmaker, artist and the face of the exhibit.

Goodwyn describes her endeavor as a “love letter to LA” and says her goal is to get people to feel the spirit of her city and to see Los Angeles as a “culturally rich place.”  “The windows will feature giant images of rows of palm trees,” but she adds, the heart of the exhibit will be the musical score onlookers will hear as they approach the windows. Once inside the store, you can browse through a retail exhibition of LA sportswear and accessory designers. Who knows, you might just end up with a T-shirt or two. – Elina Fuhrman

Recycle Shoes
and Save

Take those gently worn shoes into any Nine West retail store from September 9 to September 24 and get 15% off any purchase of $75 or more, for use online or in the store. Nine West will donate the shoes to Soles4Souls, which gives the shoes to those in need. The organization estimates that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes lying around and now there is a way to help someone out. pick of the week

For a travel writer, I'm a lousy packer. My favorite item to forget is my toothbrush, followed by my hairbrush, followed by my underwear. So the Pack Me notepad is perfect for people like me. Made on recycled paper by a company called Lobotome, the objective of this pad is "to get you on your way, on time, with your bags and without going to the loony bin." Other pads available include shopping lists, a honey-do list and one to track exercise. Pads are $9.95 for 50 sheets at www.lobotome.com
