A DOZEN EXPERT TIPS FOR ROMANTIC TRAVEL
By Renee Werbin and Stephanie Oswald
Maybe it's a special anniversary and you're ready for a huge celebration -- or perhaps, you're in a new relationship and looking for just the right subtle touch to ignite some sparks. Either way, you'll want to carry this list of romantic ideas from publisher Renee Werbin and editor-in-chief Stephanie Oswald.
Tip #1, Renee says: Mix travel with old-fashioned romance.
Be creative and make your own romantic card -- and tuck it into his briefcase or someplace else where it will bring a surprised smile. Imagine his delight in finding an invitation to dinner beneath the remote control. Preview a future vacation by making plans to dine at a restaurant serving the cuisine of your next destination.
Tip #2, Stephanie says: Call ahead for perks.
For those travelers lucky enough to plan a Valentine's vacation, have Cupid -- or the concierge -- roll out the welcome mat for you and your mate. Whether you're heading for a five-star resort or a simple bed and breakfast across town, call ahead and have the staff put roses or chilled champagne in your room.

Tip #3, Renee says: Rub in the romance.
these days, every destination has access to a spa. Even if you're staying home on a special occasion, call one of the deluxe retreats in your area and schedule a couple's massage.
Tip #4, Stephanie says: A little naughty can be nice.
Bring along that body shimmer, those temporary tattoos or even the body paint! Easy to pack and worth the laughter even if you don't actually use it.
Tip #5, Renee says: Sending flowers to a mate on the road is old news.
If miles separate you and your partner, surprise that special someone with a box of chocolate body paint, and a note promising time alone to put it to good use when your love returns. Time spent apart will be easier to stand with thoughts of painting the night away in French dark chocolate. Ooh-la-la!
Tip #6, Stephanie says: No money? No problem.
If your travel funds are tight this year, consider purchasing a "love" themed cookbook and heating things up at home. Kids in the house? Hire a sitter, and celebrate on an alternate night if necessary.
Tip #7, Renee says: Another stay-at-home alternative: let someone else do the work.Plan a candlelit dinner at home, but let someone else prepare the chow. Use a restaurant that delivers--even pizza with a good bottle of merlot or cabernet can spark romance.
Tip #8, Stephanie says: Don't forget the small stuff.Romance is often found in the tiny details. Remember to pack a card for your love; sprinkle rose petals on the bed sheets; wear his favorite perfume/her favorite cologne. When flying, store the bubble bath in a zip-lock bag in your checked luggage.
Tip #9, Renee says: Remember the soundtrack.
Along with your sexy nightie, a scented candle and massage oil, be sure to pack the music. Bring the soundtrack from the first movie you two ever saw together, romantic ballads from your favorite artist or a romantic collection from one of your favorite destinations (perhaps your honeymoon?). (Putumayo has some excellent choices from places around the world; get ideas at www.putumayo.com.) Even easier to travel with, slip that "in the mood" music into your iPod. You'll be amazed at how quickly the romantic atmosphere arrives at the first note when you arrive at your destination.
Tip #10, Stephanie says: Romantic delay is okay.
If you have the perfect lovers escape planned, but can't reserve the room until later in the year, so what! Love should be celebrated year-round. Enlist the help of a travel agent if you're short on creative ideas. They can also help you find a deal to match your budget and schedule.
Tip #11, Renee says: No time to travel?
Keep it local. Find the best hotel in town and ask about any special packages. Book dinner and a room--and relax with the bubbly. After all, you're not driving home tonight! You can enjoy an incredible getaway not far from your own backyard.
Tip #12, Stephanie says: Single?
Treat yourself! Embrace the spirit of romance, and get a massage, go to a movie or head for a beautiful beach and imagine the partner you'll be with next time.
